Bio

You Want my bio??

Born in 1969 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Circle City baby!
FUN FACT: My daddy had a brand new 69 Camaro Indy 500 Pace Car.....when I entered the world...IN 1969 :)
My family, both maternal and paternal lived in New Castle, Indiana.
My paternal side came to New Castle in the 1930's from Crab Orchard, KY.
Yes. My grandma and her 10 children.
Every one of them, played music. I was BORN with this vibe!
My daddy, he played guitar and foot pedal steel guitar.
He played and sang at the honky tonk taverns (hole in the wall bars) on the east side and the south side of Indianapolis in the 60's.
In 1974 my dad & his brother (my uncle) recorded 2 rockabilly songs on Camaro Records label in Memphis, TN.
Guess that's where daddy got his Camaro vibe from in 69, they were buddies, might as well make a record, lol.
That label was owned by a man named Style Wooten, who owned many record labels, and had a crazy obsession with, cars.
Uncle Walt (Freeman) on lead guitar and vocal, my daddy on pedal steel guitar.
I come online to hear him play from time to time.
In November of 1975,  Uncle Walt (Freeman) was at it again with a Gospel vinyl album on Breeze Records with 12 tunes. Recorded in Livingston, TN

My maternal side, let's talk about mama for a moment!
My biggest fan, always. If I had no fans, I got 1 fan. My mother.
I was raised by her on country music, as well as classic country music.
Always know, Patsy's my girl! Thanks to, mama :)

UPDATE ABOUT MY MAMA:
I lost her, July 27, 2025.
Age 80.
My heart is absolutely broken. My biggest fan in the whole wide world. I am forever changed. My life will never be the same.

let me tell you about this album!

Twelve All Original Country and Gospel Songs
       by Walt Denny

The Album

Twelve All Original Country and Gospel Songs is a vinyl LP released on Breeze Records in the mid-1970s (around 1975).

It features 12 self-written songs by Walt Denny — half secular country on one side and gospel/Christian material on the other.

The record was produced by J. P. Bowman and backed by a small band with fiddle and dobro — giving it a rougher, rootsy sound compared with mainstream Southern Gospel.

🪶 The Rugged, True Life Story of Walt Denny

Walt Denny was not just a singer — his life story informed the music:

💔 From Promising Start to Hard Times

Born in Kentucky, Denny moved to the Midwest as a teenager.
(to New Castle, Indiana)

In his younger years (1940s–1950s), he tried to make it big in music but struggled with severe alcohol addiction.

According to historical notes on the album, at his lowest point he was literally in the gutter, at the mercy of his addiction.

🙏 Turning Point — A Religious Awakening

In 1956, Denny got religion and became a born-again Christian.

This spiritual turnaround became central to his life and music. Rather than chasing commercial success, he wrote songs that reflected both his heartaches and his redemption.

🎙️ The Music Reflects the Life

The album’s first half has more everyday country themes — heartbreak, love, life on the road.

The second half contains gospel and spiritual songs, reflecting his faith and the redemption he found after addiction.

All material was original — written by Denny himself.

🎻 Backing Band

The record features a small backing band with traditional instruments:

Fiddle (Frazier Moss)

Dobro (Elton Davis)

Other local pickers
This gives the record an authentic, “straight from the hills” feel rather than a polished Nashville product.

📌 Why This Record Matters

This isn’t just a piece of vinyl — it’s the life story of a man written into 12 songs:
struggles, fall, spiritual rebirth, and testimony through music.
That kind of story is exactly why albums like this are treasured by collectors of independent country and gospel recordings.
